Can Recasens is a family-owned business since 1906, by day a deli and by night a fantastic cosy place to dine Catalan style?

By day it operates as a deli, but at night the back room and the mezzanine transform into a restaurant that has queues all down the street. Cosy and tastefully decorated, with an arty atmosphere. Their salads, fondues, cheeses and cured sausages are excellent.

Can Recasens is a cosy family-owned restaurant situated in the end corner of Rambla del Poble Nou. This place has a long history, it already started in 1906 as a butcher shop. Actually one part of the restaurant is still a shop where you can buy homemade cheese, wine, meat and olive oil.

The menu consists of simple but delicious homemade dishes such as fondue, torrades (a large piece of bread with different toppings), fustes (wooden boards with a variety of meat or cheese placed on top) and fresh salads. The restaurant has also very good wines and cavas. If you are a fondue-lover or otherwise are looking for a unique but traditional Catalan experience in an intimate and lively atmosphere, this is the place.

Can Recasens greet you with the smell of cheese and cured meat. The friendly staff will find you a table in one of the intimate, dimly lit rooms. But before ordering one of their delicious torrades (toasted bread with toppings), abundant fustes (cheese platters) or lush salads, have a look around. Pumpkins, apples and tomatoes lay and hang everywhere.

This was an outstanding dining experience, one for sharing rather than just having your own personal meal, but the food was adventurous with wasabi cheese as one of the selections on the cheeseboard. I have but praise for Can Recasens and would certainly return again.
