Road to Desert • MOROCCO
The best 18-minute road trip you’ll have today. A journey from Marrakech to the edge of the Sahara desert.
Filmed on location on the road to desert from Marrakech to the foot of the Erg Chebbi desert southeastern edge of the Sahara desert in MOROCCO.
A three-day two-night road trip that passes through the Atlas Mountains, desert mud cities and gorges where Berber people live and work before arriving in Merzouga where a camel caravan transfers you to your camp for the night in a moon or star-filled night in the desert.
A long desert highway brings you to a large throat – Gorges du Dadès, 10 km long. The flattening landscape leaves the Atlas Mountain range in Africa looking lush.
Desert cities next to dry rivers which bring water in winter. Deep canyons housing villages and green oasis, kasbahs as focal points. The approach to the desert passes a lunar landscape of black soil, mostly flat landscape void of the feature. This is where the mountains are made of sand as massive sand dunes start to appear out of the haze, the colour of turmeric.
The soundtrack was recorded over several nights by local musicians performing publicly in Jemaa el-Fnaa square in Marrakech, and a single song from the Desert Camp Bouchedor in Erg Chebbi.
This is the first time I used a complete 100% of my experience mixed with a 100% local soundtrack to tell a story that was edited down from over two hours of footage to make the best 18 minute road trip you’ll enjoy today.
